Description
Epilepsy Fellowship (ACGME-Accredited)
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the NIH Clinical Center is accepting applications for a one-year, ACGME-accredited Epilepsy Fellowship for the 2026–2027 academic year. For applicants interested in extended training, a two-year option is available, either in combination with an ACGME-accredited Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship year or as an additional, non-accredited second year following completion of the epilepsy fellowship.
The NIH fellowship provides comprehensive training in the evaluation and management of epilepsy in a tertiary referral and clinical research setting. Clinical experience includes outpatient evaluation in the epilepsy clinic, management of patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, noninvasive and invasive epilepsy evaluations, participation in an active epilepsy surgery program, and providing consultations to other services. The fellowship is affiliated with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Children’s National Hospital, with rotations at these sites providing additional exposure to a broad spectrum of patients.
Fellows receive formal training in EEG interpretation and exposure to advanced localization and mapping techniques, including intracranial monitoring, structural and functional MRI, PET, MEG, ECoG, and direct cortical stimulation. The program offers opportunities for those interested in clinical or translational research, mentoring, and academic development.
Eligibility: Completion of an ACGME-accredited neurology residency program or a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada–accredited neurology residency program. Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an unrestricted U.S. medical license.
Application and Inquiries: For further information, please contact Sara Inati, MD, Program Director, at sara.inati@nih.gov. Additional information can also be found at https://www.cc.nih.gov/training/gme/programs/epilepsy.
